About Us

What is The Orchard Group?

The Orchard Group is a small group aimed at providing encouragement and motivation to help you draw lots and to improve your skills.

Everyone loves it when their pictures come out just right, so let us try to make it more down to skill rather than luck.



So, how do I get better?

Each month, there will be an area of focus. Draw around this focus first thing when you wake up, when you're lying in bed before you go to sleep, while talking on the phone, watching TV, in every free moment you have between now and the end of the month. Start today - I don't care if it's almost 2am and you need to sleep, just grab a pencil and spend five minutes drawing. Reference yourself, other people, photos if you have no friends.

I can do that anyway, why be a member?

Ah, this is the part that I really like.

During the month, or even just in a big dump at the end, upload the drawings or pictures you've done. You can read more about what kinds of things to upload and which folders to use in the What To Upload Where Guide.

Points will be awarded for volume of practice, and variety. If you want to see how points are awarded, you can find out in The Points System Guide.

Helpful comments and critiques are also encouraged between members, so you can get some useful feedback. Don't forget to give others your impressions of their work too, and you could end up winning a prize for your contributions!



What happens then?

An excellent question! These points are collected at the end of every month on a scoreboard on the front page of the group. After six months or a year, we'll have a look at the scores and whoever is in the lead will win a spectacular prize! It's more of a marathon than a sprint, so keep your game up!
